By SportsDirect Los Angeles Lakers forward Ron Artest has achieved World Peace – at least in his own world.Artest officially had his named changed to Metta World Peace on Friday when his petition was approved by a Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner.Artest did not attend Friday’s brief hearing, which came three weeks after his bid to change his name was delayed due to a a couple of outstanding traffic warrants against him.He chose the name Metta because it is a Buddhist term that means loving kindness and friendliness toward others, said his agent, Courtney Barnes.”Changing my name was meant to inspire and bring youth together all around the world,” World Peace said in a statement. “I’m glad that it is now official.”World Peace is expected to explain his name change during his appearance on ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars” on Monday night. He has pledged to donate any earnings from the show to the Cancer Research Foundation.It has had an eventful year for World Peace. He won the NBA’s Citizenship Award in April for calling attention to mental illness, announced his name change and did a stand-up act at a Los Angeles comedy club.
